Wow!  What a year for celestial events!  I had the once and a lifetime opportunity to be a part of history and witness the Transit of Venus through the lens of my DSLR.  For those who are not familiar,  transits of Venus are among the rarest of predictable celestial phenomena and occur in pairs, eight years apart, which are themselves separated by more than a century.  What does this mean?  Well, this event will not happen again in our lifetime as the this was the last transit until the year 2117.  What is more amazing is the small black dot that is moving across the face of the sun is the planet Venus, which puts the size of our Sun into perspective.

Lunar Eclipse at 4:03am

Call me crazy but I felt compelled to set an alarm and wake up at 3am to capture the Lunar Eclipse.  A lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes behind the Earth so that the Earth blocks the Sun’s rays from striking the Moon.  I stood out on my driveway from 3am until a little after 4am to watch it unfold.  Viewing it live was amazing and capturing the phases of the eclipse was even better!
